How freeing such a thought is! Imagine, that no matter what you did or didn't do you would be welcomed back, like the prodigal son, in God. Remember this and be free and you will find that your actions will aligned with that Love.

A True Miracle

I had a dream last night. In this dream I was with a friend. He was troubled. He asked me about A Course in Miracles and what miracles were. I told him that the miracles the course talked about was not walking on water or other displays of powers. A real miracle is seeing God everywhere. And as I said that I was filled with an immense love for I was not the one saying it….
Powers are nothing in themselves. They come from the mind which has the power of God in it. Yet the mind can be an instrument of healing, which is leading one back to wholeness, back to unity, or the mind can be used to create more of the illusion of separateness or specialness. I have had the fortune of meeting several teachers early on upon my spiritual journey who had special powers and I watched how those powers cut them off from Source. They had become special and distinctively divine. We see people in our lives and on the screen and in our books who have special talents, special attributes given to them and developed by them. People may be brilliant intellectually, be a creative genius, have beauty, possess great athletic prowess, speak charismatically, etc. All these are of the mind, even the more physical if one sees that all physical manifestation is of the mind (which is another topic). Psychic or supernatural (or abilities that are not possessed by the majority of people) are neither right nor wrong to have. Like all the former abilities if they are used to bring one back to awareness of the Godhead then they are positive; if they lead to the opposite they just cause more separation as the wielder will unwisely identify with those powers. These powers, all the aforementioned, come and go. They are not permanent. If one identifies with her beauty, when old age comes where is her happiness? If one thinks that he is brilliant and the mind weakens where is his happiness? None of these abilities are worth our divine inheritance. Walking through a wall or levitating is not a miracle; it is simply an event in time.

The miracles that the course talks about are still an event in time but they are bridges to the Eternal. The true miracle is seeing the world with the eyes of the Holy Spirit and seeing the Christ in all beings and all things. It is looking upon the world with the gentle eyes of forgiveness. I met a client who shared her story of being raped in her apartment by a stranger. As she was being assaulted the grace of the Holy Spirit descended upon her and she saw not an assailant but her brother needing help. She told him that he was so loved and that he did not need to be doing what he was doing. He stopped. He told her how sorry he was, and with tears flowing down he left into the night. But he did not leave with a curse upon him but only with a blessing. That is a miracle. When we can see those events that one would normally condemn as wrong and see them with the loving eyes of spirit that knows that nothing that is real can be threatened, that all such acts are calls for love, then we actually become the miracle, the bridge of heaven appearing on earth. Then we see that every moment is and has always been a miracle beckoning us to cross into the Christ we are.

Do you want to see a miracle? Go look in the mirror and ask to see yourself with the eyes of spirit. And rejoice. For you are Divine.

The Vortex

I was just given a book, The Vortex, by Esther and Jerry Hicks, for my 50th birthday. I finished it in a few days and have been practicing watching my emotions to see if I am in alignment with Source, as they call God, or if I am not. And when I am not than I am focusing on what I do not want instead of what I want. The whole premise is that the Vortex is the becoming of our thoughts before they manifest in our physical reality. We have created this world of contrasts for us to manifest what we truly want; although we often go through experiences to show us what we don't want. If we stay focused on what we don't want then we just keep getting the experience of what we don't want.

These teachings are similar to A Course in Miracles, in that no one or thing is there to fulfill a lack. If one is out of alignment with Source, with that great feeling that everything is perfect right now and is manifesting exactly as I have created it, then the desire is based on fear, of a need for some outside fulfillment. No one or thing can bring us happiness; yet desires are the pigment by which we paint our life.

The book has a list of False Premises that I found are good reminders. Here are a few with my commentary.

#1 I am either physical or Non-Physical, either dead or alive.

When one meditates, or remembers one's dreams, or goes into the realm of the imagination or pure thinking, one experiences the non-physical world. And when one breaks down physical matter to the smallest element what is left? Energy, space. Am I in my body or is my body in me? Or is it both?

#2 My parents, because they were here long before I was born, and because they are my parents, know better than I do what is right and wrong for me.

This is a tough one for me as a teacher and parent, for I want to instill a trust for the little ones in the adults in their lives; so this is something I wouldn't burden children in believing. However, it is true in the sense that most adults are not in alignment with Source so thus are acting out of fear and not true love, which trusts in the inherent wisdom of the child and what the child brings in. That is why in Waldorf education we teachers are there to guide and not direct the children, not to fill them up with facts and ideas of what they should become. We know that they bring with them a wisdom of what they are to do that goes beyond our ken. When I was going to college I listened too much to my parents' "shoulds" and not to what I really wanted. Now I have two children going into college and am just encouraging them to follow what excites them, not what I think is practical or prudent. After all, we do not own our children; they only come through us and have their destinies calling them.

#3 If I push hard enough against unwanted things, they will go away.

In other words: What you resist, persists. Focus on what you want and not on what you don't want.

Viewing the Conditioned Mind

"When conditioning arises, if it is not claimed as "mine," it arises within an undivided state. This could also be called an unconditioned state of being. When conditioning meets an undivided state, there is an alchemical transformation. There is a sacred miracle."

This viewing of our conditioning or our tendencies is what "A Course in Miracles" calls looking at oneself with the eyes of Christ, the eyes of forgiveness. This becomes a looking at "our" stuff, whether "good" or "bad," with openness and no judgment. This gentle gazing will allow the imbalances to be free to dissolve back into That from with it arose, where there is no entity to claim it as its own. One can work and work on some unhealthy tendency, going to workshops, counseling, etc., but will it ever end? Not if we say that this tendency is me or mine. The true Self, that is One with the perfect All That Is, has no judgment or ownership. It IS and always will Be. When we can continue to work on this individual personality from the point of view of the Great Creative Agent that is always creating and is always untied with the All That Is, then there is just creativity in action on being Human.
